Oh? Well I can't really speak for the Healing Service - I have only been there once and I know there are struggles there with old politics (though, from my very cursory understanding of it that has nothing to do with "Sydney Anglicans", but rather the old liberalism that crept in and got a hold of the Cathedral - and so hostility towards Phillip and his bible-preaching ministers lingers on - and believe me, there is nothing "sophisticated" about it eg the folks from the Newtown centre advertised some weekend seminar where you were supposed to bring your own tambourine :) ...). But Overcomers Outreach, and the twelve steps, is very much about using the bible - as Penny calls it "the gospel in a drunks language". And she got frustrated in the ordinary AA that they had cut out all the references to God and his word and were trying to make it work without that so she started her own. There's huge overlap between the twelve steps and books like "You Can Change" by Tim Chester (having read the book, and from what I know of the 12-steps at this point). If you use it properly it is basically just the process of the gospel (each step has bible references etc) and applying it to addiction issues. If you go here http://www.overcomersoutreach.net/ and either click on the main page to download the brochure or bring up the 12 steps under the resources tab you will see what I mean.
Anyway, I think I know what you mean about the sophistication issues, but I don't think OO is in that category.

Andrew - sorry about any confusion I caused! I wanted to encourage you. Yes, I am really pleased with your comments on Syd Ang. M and I are both very concerned about the same things you have mentioned - re authority of scripture.

Really? I feel very, very discouraged at the moment about it all. It's no so much the issue, but I want people to look to the Word as authority.
I am really, really worried that many in the Sydney Anglican System are getting too "sophisticated" for just reading the Bible.
Not at my church though. Most of them love the word of God - and spending time with them revives my soul!
