Apostle's Greed

Does anyone have a copy of the Apostle's Greed that was found in 'How to get really rich' by Brian Rosner. When Matthias media re-released the book as 'Beyond Greed', they added some really good material, but removed some amazing poems and parodies. It started like this ....

"I believe in Gold Almighty ..."

I re-wrote it, since I couldn't find the original. A few of the lines are from memory, but most is made up.

I believe in Gold Almighty,
Strongest thing in heaven and earth.
And in greed itself,
What’s gotten and won.
Concieved in the global economy
Born of the market forces,
To be suffered for, died for
And defended like hell
By the “third way” economics we will rise again.
Ascending to the shops, we sit down at the café at the right side of the town.
I believe that more will come to the quick and those ahead.
I believe in wholey national bank.
The communication of wants.
The living for things.
The satisfaction of the body.
As if life had no end.
Amen.

So, do we become anti-capitalist? Or Christian? Or a mixture of both?

I think the key is what we believe. We don't believe in Gold Almighty, we believe in God Almighty; we believe in Jesus, not in greed; we believe in the Holy Spirit, judgment and eternal life.

So we certainly don't believe in capitalism, we believe in God.

We might practice capitalism; but we've got to be pretty careful of greed's deceptive power. I think I too often am uncritical of my own engagement in capitalism - particularly my spending habits. Where my treasure is there will my heart be. I wanted to include a few verses about the global forces, but have the punch lines as applying to individuals.

Any suggestions of improvements. I only spent about 15 minutes on it.

Hey Andrew,
Thanks so much for your faithful teaching on Matt 6. I'm worrying alot at the moment and your third point on Exercising Uncompromised Trust was just what I needed to hear. So I'm working on first seeking his kingdom and righteousness (which is really hard!) and letting tomorrow worry about itself (which is kinda comforting).

Praise God for Matthew's wonderful account of our Lord's care for us!
